ON-GOING PROJECTS

GONZALO PAIZ PARK PROJECT

The City of Mathis, with the assistance of a grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, is repairing, improving and expanding Gonzalo Paiz Park.  The addition of nearly thirty acres of land will allow the construction of four new baseball fields, including a triplex and concession, six soccer fields, a small man made lake complete with a wetlands area, a nature trail, cultural exhibits and several other park amenities.  The existing portion of the park will see the addition of a volleyball court, a new skate park, new playground equipment, and a shuffleboard court as well as reconstruted tennis and basketball courts.

The grant, which is a reimbursement grant requires participation from the community in the form of donated labor, equipment and materials.











FEMA HAZARD MITIGATION PROJECT

This project is addressing the only Flood Zone in Mathis.  City matching funds have been provided with ORCA  Funds, TxDOT Funding, and San Patricio Drainage District Funding.  This project provides residents in the southwestern part of the city with underground drainage designed to flow into the natural outfall of Six Mile Creek. TxDOT SOUTH FRONTAGE ROAD PROJECT

 Engineering drawings were sent to Austin for review in February 2008.  the project is scheduled to be let out for bid in late summer 2008.  The project is scheduled for completetion in late summer 2009. ($4.0 million)
