City of Mathis EMS Department
The City of Mathis EMS Department is staffed with highly trained and state certified Paramedics and EMT’s. The EMS department responds to medical emergencies in the City of Mathis and covers approximately 188 square miles of our coverage area in San Patricio County. Included in our coverage area is also Lake City, Hidden Acres, Lakeshore Gardens, Lakeside and Old San Patricio. We also respond to Lake Corpus Christi, Sunrise Beach and assist any areas in the proximity should they require mutual aid.
The City of Mathis EMS department currently operates one ambulance 24/7, and is equipped with three BLS/ALS with MICU capability. They are equipped with state of the art equipment able to provide the best and up to date prehospital care. We are medically supervised and provide prehospital care under the supervision of Dr. David Blanchard , and are certified with the Texas Department of State Health Services.
Our EMS department is happy to have received the first ever award given by Halo Flight Air Ambulance for the best EMS provider in the Coastal Bend area.

Mathis EMS, a Department of the City of Mathis, Texas, is a governmental EMS provider. Licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) as a Basic Life Support (BLS) with Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) capabilities.
The Department employs EMT’s, AEMT’s and Paramedics who respond to an average of 2000 calls per year, making Mathis EMS one of the busiest services in San Patricio County, Texas. The men and women of Mathis EMS are highly skilled and specially trained to provide state-of-the-art pre-hospital emergency medical care. Under the leadership of the Medical Director, Dr. David Blanchard D.O., Mathis EMS leverages the latest advances in both medicine and technology to provide the residents and visitors of our community with the best pre-hospital medical care. The Department operates one 911 ambulance BLS with MICU capability 24 hours a day. During peak times, Mathis EMS operates a Quick Response Vehicle (QRV) and or a second ambulance BLS with MICU capability.
The department currently employs 10 full time and 10 part time / (PRN) employees. The integration of full time and part time employees helps us to cut costs and run more efficiently. This gives us the ability to focus on the reason why we are here, to provide unsurpassed patient care.
While Mathis EMS’ primary mission is to respond to 9-1-1 calls for medical emergencies, this represents only a single component of our service. Mathis EMS bridges the gap between public health and public safety and plays a critical role in the medical aspects of the City’s emergency preparedness efforts. The Department works closely with our public safety, healthcare, and private sector partners to plan for mass casualty incidents and medical surge, ensuring that the people of Mathis can count on a well-planned, coordinated response in the event of a natural or man-made disaster.
In addition to preparing the city for emergencies, Mathis EMS is a committed partner of the community and is dedicated to improving and protecting the lives of Mathis visitors and residents.
Mathis EMS works closely with other surrounding departments to provide medical attention and mutual aide in the event of a disaster or if they are unable to respond.
